The wind whips the rain across my face. The darkened overcast sky enriching the deep reds and blues of the flags draped over their oaken resting places. Three shots ring out and echo across the stark white slabs dotting the gentle green slopes and bouncing back into the black umbrellas of the dignitaries and old guard around me. The chaplain is speaking as the sky opens up so I only hear one word through the steady stream of rain: heroes.
